Pakistan’s former fast bowler Mohammad Amir has hit back at Indian former cricketer Mohammad Kaif, dismissing his criticism of Amir’s comments on Indian opener Abhishek Sharma. Amir claimed that he had made his mark in cricket based on his performance, not just his fielding. This controversy began when Amir criticized Sharma during the ongoing T20 tournament, calling him a “slow bat” and predicting that India would not reach the finals. However, India’s performance in the tournament has been impressive, and they have reached the finals, rendering Amir’s prediction incorrect.
The second semi-final of the T20 World Cup will be played between India and England in Mumbai today. India has already secured a spot in the finals and will face New Zealand on March 8 at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Mohammad Kaif had dismissed Amir’s comments, telling fans not to take them seriously. However, Amir has reacted strongly to Kaif’s statement and referred to his own experience in cricket.
In a video uploaded to his YouTube channel, Amir said, “I don’t know much about Kaif’s career, he played only 29 matches in the Indian Premier League and had a strike rate of 103. I don’t need to talk about the Indian team to get attention, I have played 350 T20 matches.” When asked during a press conference in Lahore if Pakistan could still make it to the semi-finals, Amir replied, “I have made my mark in international cricket based on my performance, not just my fielding. You should thank Dada (Saurav Ganguly) for that, he played cricket based on his fielding, not like that.”
It’s worth noting that India is just one step away from winning the trophy, and if they emerge victorious, they will become the first team to win the ICC T20 World Cup title consecutively.
