Pakistan’s former fast bowler, Mohammad Amir, has questioned the selectors’ decision to leave out Babar Azam and Shahnawaz Dahani from the squad for the upcoming ODI series against Bangladesh. In a private TV program, Mohammad Amir said that the most important question is whether Babar Azam and Shahnawaz Dahani were dropped from the team on the basis of their performance or were rested.
He added that it should be clear whether Shahnawaz and Babar were dropped from the ODI team on the basis of their T20 performance or were rested from the format. Mohammad Amir further questioned that if they were dropped from the team on the basis of their performance, where would they play ODI cricket to regain their place in the team.
Babar Azam failed to live up to expectations in the T20 World Cup, and the next World Cup is just eight months away. Therefore, it should also be clarified that the players selected for the Bangladesh series will be the core of the World Cup team or not. On the other hand, former national batsman, Ahmed Shehzad, also raised questions about the decision by saying that whether Babar Azam was given a chance to regain the selectors’ trust before being dropped from the team. If Babar has damaged Pakistani cricket, it should be made clear on what grounds. Otherwise, he is not worthy of such treatment.
Ahmed Shehzad added that Babar Azam is still Pakistan’s best ODI and red-ball batsman, and the team needs him. The Pakistan-Bangladesh series will be played in Dhaka from March 11 to 15. The selection committee has been informed that the ICC will organize the closing ceremony before the T20 World Cup final match.
