Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – The 2027 Asian Cup is set to make history as Saudi Arabia hosts the inaugural and final matches of the prestigious tournament. According to foreign media reports, Saudi Arabia, the three-time Asian champion, will host the event for the first time.
The Saudi authorities announced that the matches will take place at the King Fahd Sports City Stadium in Riyadh from January 7 to February 5, 2027. The stadium, which has a seating capacity of over 70,000, will host the expected final and opening matches.
The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has stated that the King Fahd Sports City Stadium will serve as the central venue for both the final and opening matches. The stadium will also host four group stage matches, two quarterfinals, and one semifinal before the final is played in early February.
The authorities have allocated eight venues for the tournament, with the King Fahd Sports City Stadium being the largest. Matches will also be played in Jeddah and Al Khobar.
The AFC has also announced that the final schedule of the tournament will be revealed on April 11 during the draw ceremony in Riyadh.
It is worth noting that Qatar, the host of the 2022 World Cup, hosted the Asian Cup in 2022 and won the title. The tournament was originally scheduled to take place in China in 2023 but was moved due to COVID-19 policies in the country.
