Sindh High Court Chief Justice Appoints Justice Agha Faisal to Lead Inquiry
A judicial commission has been formed to investigate the tragic incident at Karachi’s Gul Plaza. The commission will be headed by Justice Agha Faisal, who has been appointed by the Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court. According to the notification issued, the commission will investigate the construction of the building, the extension of the lease by the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA), and the building plan’s non-compliance.
The commission will also examine the difficulties faced by people during the evacuation process, the arrangements made for fire safety and prevention, and the implementation of audit recommendations for the Gul Plaza fire. Additionally, the commission will investigate the causes of the fire, the rescue efforts, and the responsibilities of those involved before and after the incident.
The commission has been given 8 weeks to complete its investigation. The Commissioner of Karachi will provide the commission with the necessary support from the secretariat.
Meanwhile, Pakistan and Uzbekistan have agreed to establish an inter-regional forum to strengthen regional ties. The two countries have also agreed to enhance cooperation in energy, defense, tourism, and education.
Opposition leader Maqbool Ahmad, however, expressed his dissatisfaction with the party’s social media handling, saying that the government’s actions are a source of embarrassment for the PTI.
In a separate development, the Balochistan government has arrested 100 suspects during an operation in Quetta, recovering arms in the process. The internet will be restored in the city today.
