Asif Zardari, the husband of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, has been in Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi for several months. His daughter Bakhtawar Bhutto Zardari and her aunt, Faryal Talpur, were allowed to visit him on Sunday. The family was accompanied by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).
According to sources, the family was allowed to visit Asif Zardari after three months. However, Imran Khan, the chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), was not present during the meeting.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that his father received two messages from Asif Zardari. Asif Zardari informed him that Imran Khan’s health has improved significantly. He also told Imran Khan’s family that he needs to undergo further treatment to avoid losing his eye.
The family’s visit was not a politicized meeting, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said. However, they discussed the importance of interfaith harmony and religious tolerance during the meeting.
Meanwhile, the Taliban’s takeover in Afghanistan has led to a resurgence of militant groups in the region. The Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) have been active in the country. The government has been working to counter the growing militancy in the region.
In other news, the Sindh government has announced that it will reopen the railways in the province. The Quetta-Peshawar train will resume its services from today, while the Chaman Passenger Train will also operate from today.
The opposition alliance, the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), has announced that it will participate in the government’s dialogue. The PDM has been demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Imran Khan.
In a significant development, the Supreme Court has ordered the arrest of former Sindh chief minister, Nadeem Nusrat. Nusrat was accused of firing at police personnel during a protest in Karachi in January 2024. Two police officers were injured in the incident.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 3,730 cases of missing persons have been reported since January 2024. Of these, 2,760 cases have been resolved, while 970 cases are still under investigation.
Finally, the Chief of the Army Staff and the Chief of the Air Staff visited Quetta today. They met with the local authorities and discussed the security situation in the region.
