The Federal Constitutional Court of Pakistan has delivered its verdict on the high-profile murder case of journalist Arshad Sharif, which has been pending since his tragic demise in Kenya in 2022. According to the court’s judgment, written by Justice Amir Farooq, the court has ruled that there is no need for judicial intervention in the case, citing the existence of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Pakistan and Kenya on Mutual Legal Assistance.
The judgment also stated that the governments of both countries are taking necessary measures, making judicial intervention unnecessary. In the written judgment, it was further stated that the case of Somoto and all related appeals will be disposed of. The court acknowledged the grief of the journalistic community and the people of Pakistan over Arshad Sharif’s murder.
The court emphasized that heirs of any case can approach relevant courts for related matters. It is worth recalling that Arshad Sharif met his untimely demise in a shooting incident in Nairobi, Kenya, approximately 110 kilometers from the capital. The Kenyan police had previously expressed sorrow over the mistaken identity of Arshad Sharif’s death.
In other news, President of Pakistan expressed concerns over India’s illegal occupation posing a serious challenge to global conscience. Sardar Farooq Tahir Beg, while addressing a meeting, stated that the people of Kashmir have been fighting for their right to freedom for seven decades against Indian oppression.
