Bollywood actress Tabu has been a prominent figure in the Indian film industry for decades, known for her powerful performances on screen. Despite being one of the most influential actresses of her generation, Tabu’s personal life has been marked by strength and independence from a young age. In a recent interview, Tabu revealed that her childhood was shaped by her parents’ divorce when she was just three years old. She was raised by her grandparents, who played a significant role in her life.
Growing up in a strong women’s environment, Tabu slowly found her voice, whether as a person or as an artist. According to a report by Indian media, in an old interview with Semi Grewal, Tabu reminisced about her childhood days in Hyderabad. She said, “My childhood was very good, we lived in Hyderabad all our lives. After my parents’ divorce, I lived with my grandparents, not my parents. My mother was a teacher, and I spent most of my time with my grandmother. She was a devout person who used to read a lot, and I grew up in that environment.”
Tabu came from a family with a strong background in art and literature. Her older sister, Farah, was an actress in the 1980s, and she is also related to Shahbana Azmi. Despite this, Tabu’s early years were far removed from the glamour of the film industry. In the same interview, Tabu revealed that she never felt the need to use her father’s surname, Saranidh Hashmi. She said, “I never used it. I never felt the need to use it. My name has always been Tabassum Fatima, which was my middle name. At school, Fatima was my surname. I never felt the need to use my father’s surname.”
Tabu’s relationship with her father was strained, and she has never felt the need to reconnect with him. She said, “I don’t have any memories of my father. My sister sometimes meets him, but I’ve never felt the need to meet him. I don’t have any curiosity about him. I am happy with who I am and how I grew up.”
Tabu has several projects lined up, including a role in the upcoming film “Jaganmohini” alongside Vijay Sethupathi, and a horror comedy “Bhoot Bangla” opposite Akshay Kumar. Both films are scheduled to release this year.
