The Supreme Court of Pakistan has issued a directive to the police authorities to cease using the phrase “At Your Service” in official documents. The court has deemed this practice to be a remnant of colonial-era mentality. In a written judgment, Justice Salamuddin Panhwer stated that this type of language is a reflection of an outdated mindset. He emphasized that the Superintendent of Police (SP) is a public servant, not the servant of the people.
The Supreme Court of Pakistan has also issued a verdict regarding the reinstatement of police officials terminated in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the payment of their dues. The court has declared that the wrongly terminated employees are entitled to receive all their dues. The Supreme Court has also banned the use of the word “pleader” in police operations, stating that it implies begging for mercy rather than demanding one’s rights.
Justice Panhwer has warned police officers that any undue delay in filing FIRs is unacceptable. He noted that the trend of delayed FIR filing is more prevalent in Sindh. The Supreme Court has directed the Prosecutor General of Sindh to submit a report within a month regarding the average delay in filing FIRs in serious crimes over the past two years.
