Sindh’s Senior Minister, Sharjeel Inam Memon, has challenged the leadership of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) over the recent car tragedy in Karachi. During a press conference, Memon stated that the Sindh government has been accused of professional negligence in the matter. He added that it was unfortunate that the government was not able to control the fire at the Gul Plaza incident within 24 to 48 hours, resulting in the loss of lives.
In a separate development, MQM leader Hyder Abbas Rizvi stated that the Sindh government is responsible for the professional negligence that led to the tragic incident. He emphasized that the inquiry report into the incident will reveal the truth behind the tragedy, and the culprits will be held accountable.
The Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court, Sardar Tariq Masood, has issued a statement regarding the incident. According to the statement, the incident occurred when the owner’s grandson took the car without permission and lost control, resulting in the tragic consequences.
The Committee of Justices has proposed amendments to the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001, to introduce reforms in the super tax regime and phase out the existing system. The MQM has also suggested that a high-level investigation committee be formed under the Commission of Inquiry Act, 2017.
The police have registered a case under section 322 of the Pakistan Penal Code against the project manager, safety officer, and site in-charge of the construction site where the incident occurred.
In a separate development, the Chief Minister of Punjab, Mariam Nawaz, has convened an emergency meeting to discuss the recent incident in Lahore. The meeting was attended by senior officials, and a briefing was given on the incident, stating that the construction work was in progress at the site, and the mother and daughter were residing with their relatives in Lahore at the time of the incident.
The spokesperson for the Education Department of Sindh has stated that for the first time in the province, steps are being taken to strengthen the administration of government schools.
Separately, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has spoken to the Iranian President, Ebrahim Raisi, over the phone. The Prime Minister emphasized that the government is committed to strengthening ties with Europe and other countries.
The Pakistan People’s Party has criticized the government for not inviting the founder of the PTI for a meeting despite court orders.
