The Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Faisal Kundi, has stated that the Turi Mangal tragedy is not a matter of political rhetoric but a pressing issue that requires an immediate solution. He expressed these views during a media interaction with opposition leader Dr. Abdul Qadir Khan in Khyber.
In a recent development, Islamabad High Court has ordered the arrest of Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sahibzada Saeedur Rehman Afridi, and his subsequent presentation before the court. The Governor accused the provincial government of politicizing every issue, claiming that repeated calls for an Apex Committee meeting have yielded no progress.
“We are facing a grave administrative crisis,” Dr. Abdul Qadir Khan said, adding that 90% of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s regions are not feeling safe. “The Chief Minister has only attended office for 10 days out of the 100 days he has been in office. A joint Apex Committee meeting is urgently required to address the issue of peace and security, as well as the Turi Mangal tragedy.”
The Governor also criticized the government for wasting millions of rupees on the so-called “street movements.” “Sawat is under lockdown, but the Chief Minister only made a political statement. A judicial inquiry needs to be conducted to identify those responsible for this tragic incident.”
A statement released by the Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court, Athar Minallah, noted that an investigation into the case would be conducted under the Complaints Act 2017, and a high-level investigative commission will be set up.
In a separate incident, the Punjab Government, led by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, held a meeting to discuss the recent incident in Lahore’s Main Boulevard. The meeting was briefed on the situation, stating that the incident occurred while construction work was underway, and the mother and daughter were staying with their relatives in Lahore. The rescue team responded promptly to the situation.
In a different report, the spokesperson for the Education Department of Sindh announced that the government has taken steps to strengthen the administration of public schools for the first time. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif spoke with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi over the phone and expressed his determination to strengthen cooperation with the European Union in all sectors.
The Sindh Government, led by Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, plans to write a letter to the Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court to request a judicial inquiry into the recent incident.
