The Government of Sindh has issued directives to ensure the implementation of strict fire safety and protection measures in all private schools across the province. According to a notification issued by the Directorate of Inspection and Registration of Private Institutions, Ministry of Education and Literacy, Sindh, all private schools must implement comprehensive fire safety protocols immediately. The notification states that all school buildings must be equipped with active fire alarms, smoke detectors, and fire extinguishers on every floor. Regular inspections, servicing, and maintenance of these devices must also be ensured.
Chairman of the Association of Blood and Development (Abadabad) Pakistan, Hassan Bakhshi, claimed that it is impossible to implement fire safety measures within three days. Emergency exits and stairs must be kept open at all times and prominently marked, with obstacles removed.
The notification further states that electrical wiring, laboratories, kitchens, generator rooms, and other sensitive areas in schools must be inspected by qualified experts on a regular basis to minimize the risk of fire and electrical accidents. Additionally, fire evacuation plans, floor maps, and emergency instructions must be displayed in classrooms, corridors, and common areas.
The notification also emphasizes that fire drills must be conducted at least twice a year, with the results recorded. Teachers and non-teaching staff must be trained in emergency procedures, evacuation, and basic first aid. Special arrangements must be made for the safe evacuation of special children, pre-school students, and other vulnerable groups.
The Education Department has directed schools to designate a clear assembly point outside the school building and ensure that attendance is verified immediately after evacuation. Unauthorized re-entry into schools must be prohibited.
The notification warns that strict action will be taken against schools that fail to implement these directives. The school administration has been instructed to circulate this notification among staff and implement it in full.
