A shocking revelation has come to light during a meeting of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the Parliament, led by Member of the National Assembly Syed Naveed Qamar. The committee meeting was held in Islamabad, where it was disclosed that the management of Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) had lost 41 crore rupees due to theft of a gas pipeline at the Mangal Mandi store. The audit authorities have confirmed that the pipeline worth over 41 crore rupees was stolen from the store.
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has launched a comprehensive investigation into the theft, with a total of 41 inquiries conducted so far. According to the audit authorities, the theft was committed by the company’s own employees. Committee member Shazia Marri stated that this was a serious case of internal theft, adding that the company’s management had initially claimed that outsiders were responsible for the theft. However, it has now come to light that the company’s own employees were involved in the theft.
SNGPL management has claimed that security cameras are directly linked to the head office and are being monitored in real-time. The company’s managing director stated that 16 million rupees out of the stolen amount have been recovered so far. The FIA authorities have confirmed that 18 suspects have been arrested, and all have been granted bail. However, SNGPL management has claimed that 41 people have been held responsible for the theft.
Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee Syed Naveed Qamar expressed his concerns, asking how the court had granted bail to all the suspects. The authorities have revealed that the SNGPL board has formed a special committee to investigate the matter. The FIA authorities have also confirmed that they have recovered 4 crore 40 lakh rupees, and have requested SNGPL to conduct a forensic audit.
