A high-profile dispute between Islamabad Police and the Islamabad Bar Council has been resolved, with police officials apologizing for their behavior. The row began over the arrest and court appearance of two lawyers, Advocate Eman Mazari and Hadi Ali Chatha, by police. A high-level delegation from the Islamabad Police, led by DIG (Operations) Javed Tareen, IG Security Atiq-ur-Rehman, and others, visited the Islamabad Bar Council and apologized to the President and Secretary Bar for their behavior. The delegation was received by representatives from the Islamabad Bar, District Bar, and the Islamabad Bar Council.
The Islamabad Bar Association demanded that the court provide justice to the lawyers in the case and that the cases against the duo be fixed in the High Court. The Bar Association announced that its strike, which had been ongoing since yesterday, would be called off. Earlier, the Islamabad Bar Association had announced that it would continue its strike for the third day, but later announced that it would call off the strike after the police apologized.
The Bar Association further stated that the police had assured them that no lawyer would be arrested illegally, and that the protection of advocates’ black coats would be ensured at all costs. President Asif Ali Zardari met with UAE Vice President Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and discussed the strengthening of bilateral relations between Pakistan and the UAE.
