The Islamabad High Court has issued a notice in the appeal against the acquittal of Shah Nawaz Amir’s mother, who was convicted of murdering Saira Imran. Justices Arbab Muhammad Tahir and Inam Amin Manhass heard the case. Lawyer Raja Rizwan Abbasi said that a decision should be made on the request for Saira Imran’s mother’s pardon first, as she was present at the scene where the murder took place. Justice Inam Amin Manhass asked the lawyer what role Saira Imran’s mother played in the incident. Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir said that Saira Imran’s mother had called the police.
The Islamabad District and Sessions Court had earlier reserved its judgment in the case of the murder of Saira Imran, the niece of senior journalist Ayaz Amir. Lawyer Raja Rizwan Abbasi said that it was Saira Imran’s mother who had called the police. The lawyer said that he wanted to present evidence first on the request for pardon. Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir asked the lawyer to state his evidence. Justice Inam Amin Manhass asked the lawyer who else was present at the scene. The lawyer said that a servant was also present at the house, and that the decision on pardon would be made first, which would impact the main case.
The court has adjourned the hearing of the Saira Imran murder case until February 17. It is worth mentioning that Shah Nawaz Amir killed Saira Imran in September 2022.
