The Punjab Wildlife Department has made a significant breakthrough in its efforts to curb the illegal trade of wild animals, with the recovery of 57 tigers and other wildlife in a single day. According to a spokesperson of the department, operations were conducted in various cities across Punjab on January 24, resulting in the apprehension of eight individuals and the confiscation of 57 tigers and other wildlife.
A total of 20 tigers were recovered from a farm house on Baidian Road in Lahore, while 23 tigers were seized from a housing society in Jhelum. In addition, nine tigers and one monkey were recovered from a farm house in Multan Cantonment. Four individuals were apprehended from Lahore, while one each was arrested from Multan and Jhelum.
Furthermore, the Punjab Wildlife Department also recovered three tigers from a housing society in Gujranwala and two tigers from a house in Luthehr village in Sialkot. The department has assured that it will continue to take strict action against those involved in the illegal trade of wild animals.
Meanwhile, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced that it will hold a grand jirga at the Jamarod Football Stadium in Peshawar on Sunday to address the concerns of various communities in the province. President Asif Ali Zardari has also met with the UAE’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, in Abu Dhabi.
