Bollywood’s renowned singer Kumar Sanu has secured a significant victory in a defamation case worth Rs 50 crore against his ex-wife, Rita Bhattacharya. The Mumbai High Court has issued a stern warning to Rita Bhattacharya, prohibiting her from making any derogatory, false, or contentious statements against Kumar Sanu or his family on any platform.
During the court hearing, Justice Milind Jadhav issued orders against Rita Bhattacharya and some media houses, stating that they should not write or speak anything that could harm Kumar Sanu’s reputation. The judge remarked that Rita’s previous interviews were not mere opinions but crossed the line of personal attacks.
Kumar Sanu’s lawyer, Sana Rehman, presented evidence in court, stating that Rita’s recent interviews had caused significant financial and personal harm to the singer. She also requested the court to remove her previous interviews, which the court agreed to consider after receiving a response from the opposing side.
It is worth noting that Kumar Sanu had filed the defamation case last year after Rita accused him of mistreating her during their marriage, alleging that he had assaulted her, denied her food, and failed to provide her with medical facilities. Kumar Sanu’s legal team has disputed these allegations, describing them as baseless and motivated by malice.
The court has scheduled the next hearing for January 28. Kumar Sanu and Rita were married in 1986, but they separated in 1994, and their divorce was finalized in 2001. They have three sons together.
