Bollywood singer Kumar Sanu has achieved a significant victory in a 50 crore rupee defamation case against his former wife, Rita Bhartacharya. The Bombay High Court has restrained Rita Bhartacharya from making any false, defamatory, or controversial statements against Kumar Sanu and his family. During the hearing, Justice Milind Jadhav issued an order against Rita Bhartacharya and several media houses, stating that they should not write or say anything that could harm Kumar Sanu’s reputation on any platform.
Justice Jadhav remarked that Rita’s previous interviews were not mere comments, but had crossed the line into personal attacks. Kumar Sanu’s lawyer, Sana Rehman Khan, presented evidence in court, stating that Rita’s recent interviews had caused significant financial and personal harm to Kumar Sanu. Khan also requested the court to remove the old interviews, which the court said it would consider after receiving a reply from the defendant.
It is worth noting that Kumar Sanu had filed the case last year, after Rita Bhartacharya made allegations against him on various platforms, stating that he had been abusive to her during their marriage, had not provided her with food, and had not provided her with medical facilities. Kumar Sanu’s team has termed the allegations as false and motivated.
The court has scheduled the next hearing for January 28. Kumar Sanu and Rita Bhartacharya were married in 1986 and separated in 1994, their divorce was finalized in 2001, and they have three sons together.
