The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has apprehended former Canadian Olympian Ryan James Whitaker in Mexico City and transferred him to the United States, where he will face severe charges of drug trafficking and murder. According to the FBI, 44-year-old Ryan Whitaker is associated with a large international drug trafficking network that brought cocaine from Colombia to America and Canada. Whitaker is accused of collaborating with the cartel and operating a multi-million-dollar cocaine business annually. The US agency claims that Whitaker is also facing multiple murder charges, including the killing of a US federal officer who was a witness against him.
FBI Director Kash Patel has referred to Whitaker as a modern-day “El Chapo” and “Pablo Escobar.” The investigation has also uncovered allegations of forcing around eight women into immoral acts and subjecting them to physical abuse. Reports from international media suggest that Whitaker represented Canada at the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics, but later became one of the FBI’s 10 most wanted fugitives, with a $15 million reward for his capture. At the time of his arrest, 36 other individuals were arrested, and valuable assets such as luxury cars, art, and jewelry were seized.
Whitaker will be presented in a US federal court, where he will face charges of drug trafficking, multiple murders, and conspiracy.
