Karachi has seen a significant increase in dog bite cases in city’s government and private hospitals since January 1. According to Indus Hospital’s spokesperson, over 3,440 dog bite cases have been reported in different hospitals in Karachi this year. In just five days of January 2026, more than 850 dog bite cases have been reported in Karachi. According to the spokesperson, Indus Hospital has seen the highest number of dog bite cases, with over 1,300 reported since January 1. Dr. Arifan Siddiqui, the spokesperson for Jinnah Hospital, said that over 700 cases have been reported in the hospital within the same period. The Sindh government’s hospitals have also seen a significant increase in dog bite cases, with over 1,000 new cases reported since the beginning of the year. According to hospital officials, a large number of patients are being brought to emergency every day, and private hospitals are also reporting dog bite cases. A private hospital on Stadium Road has reported 20 cases, and a private hospital in the Federal B Area has also reported 20 cases. Dr. Farooq Mameji said that after initial treatment, patients are transferred to government hospitals.
