Karachi, Pakistan – In the aftermath of the devastating fire at Glow Plaza in Karachi, relief efforts are underway, with authorities working to rescue those trapped and provide aid to the affected families. Chief Fire Officer Hameed Khan confirmed that the search operation is ongoing, and the debris has been significantly reduced.
The Chief Fire Officer stated that once all the operations are complete, the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) will begin its investigation. Khan also revealed that the fire has been brought under control, with shifts being rotated, and despite the cold weather, the rescue efforts continue. The Chief Fire Officer added that the fire broke out in the Nazimabad, North Nazimabad, and the site area, which was swiftly responded to.
Following the tragic incident, the Sindh Building Control Authority launched a survey of buildings in three districts of Karachi. Khan confirmed that only the search operation for debris is ongoing, with human remains being examined. The Chief Fire Officer stated that the National Engineering Development Board (NED) and the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) have yet to submit any report on the incident.
Meanwhile, a case has been registered against unknown individuals under the charges of negligence and dereliction of duty, as per the government’s complaint. It is essential to note that the massive fire at Glow Plaza, one of Karachi’s prominent shopping centers, has left 71 people dead, with 20 identified victims, and 71 bodies undergoing post-mortem.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Karachi South, Javed Nabi Khowaja, announced the completion of the search operation on the eighth day of the fire.
