Chairman Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Rashid Mahmood Langrial recently disclosed that a staggering 4.9 million individuals filed tax returns last year, while 5.9 million tax returns were filed this year. This assertion was made during a session focused on taxation at the Alhamra Hall’s ThinkFest, where Miftah Ismail and Rashed Mahmood Langrial participated. Chairman FBR highlighted a 20% increase in tax returns this year, stating that the tax rate is higher for salaried individuals compared to their counterparts in regional countries. When compared to regional countries, Pakistan’s tax rate is higher.
The FBR’s Regional Tax Office in Peshawar seized 6,485,854 kilograms of contraband tobacco and green leaf. During the session, Chairman FBR emphasized that a salaried individual cannot hide their income, and even 15 years ago, when the tax rate was lower, people still paid less tax. He also mentioned that the FBR has taken action against corrupt officials and arrested those involved in corruption.
