Karachi, Pakistan – In a shocking turn of events, the CEO of Glplaza Management Committee, Tanveer Pasha, has revealed that losses have exceeded Rs 10 billion following the devastating blaze that ravaged the city’s iconic building, Glplaza.
In an exclusive interview with a local media outlet, Pasha stated that the management team has been working tirelessly to rescue those trapped inside the building and has been instrumental in facilitating relief efforts. “We are not complacent, we have been on the ground since the first day, and the rescue operation is ongoing,” he said.
Meanwhile, Karachi Police Surgeon, Dr. Sameena Tariq, has confirmed that 71 bodies or human remains have been recovered from the site so far. “Some bodies have not been found, and the debris is scattered everywhere. We are finding body parts from the rubble,” she said.
The Glplaza Management Committee has estimated losses to exceed Rs 10 billion, with the Chamber of Commerce standing in solidarity with the management committee. “The Chamber has assured us of its support and has pledged to help us recover from this devastating loss,” Pasha said.
In a separate development, the Chief Secretary, Zahid Zaman, has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident, with all officials on the ground to oversee the rescue operation. The Pakistan Navy has also successfully conducted a rescue operation in the Arabian Sea, while the Chief Fire Officer, Humayun Khan, has confirmed that the search and rescue operation is ongoing, with the rubble being cleared.
The Sindh government has also announced a relief package for the families of the victims, with Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s Coordinator for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Waqar ul Hasan, stating that the PTI government had ruined the province and was now trying to cause further damage to the country.
