Iran was also approached, but the talks have stalled. The Board members will reportedly be paid up to $1 billion for their participation, with a permanent and long-term membership term.
In a statement, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs praised President Trump’s Middle East policies, saying that Egypt accepts the invitation to join the Board of Peace and will follow through with the necessary legal and constitutional procedures. The statement also expressed support for the Board’s mission to implement a comprehensive plan to end the Gaza conflict.
Meanwhile, Sweden and Norway have refused to join the Board of Peace, citing concerns over the initiative’s legitimacy and the need for further discussions with the US. The Swedish government has stated that it will not participate in the Board’s activities, citing the lack of transparency and accountability in the initiative.
