The Sindh Minister for Local Government, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, has stated that the Chief Minister of Sindh, Murad Ali Shah, is still awaiting the fire safety audit report, which was supposed to be submitted yesterday. In an interview with Geo News, Shah expressed his concerns that the incident in the Glitter Plaza building was a wake-up call for the government and residents to take fire safety measures seriously.
The minister further stated that the provincial government is not taking any responsibility for the tragedy and that the fire safety audit report was submitted to the Chief Minister only yesterday, leaving him perplexed as to why it was not presented earlier. As a result, the Chief Minister has directed all building owners to install fire alarms, and he is in close contact with the residents to ensure their safety.
Nasir Shah maintained that the incident in the Glitter Plaza was a result of human error and that the provincial government is not responsible for it. He acknowledged that the government may have made some mistakes, but it is not a reflection of the government’s incompetence.
The police have confirmed that eight people were injured in the incident, and 48 people have undergone post-mortem examinations, while 86 are still missing. Rescue teams are working to retrieve possible bodies from under the debris.
In other news, the Sindh government has announced that it will increase funding for the education sector, with a focus on improving the quality of education in rural areas. The decision was taken during a meeting between the Chief Minister and the education ministers.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a weather alert for Karachi, predicting heavy rainfall from this afternoon to evening. The department has also warned of possible flash flooding in low-lying areas.
In a separate incident, a woman was injured when a pet lion attacked her in the Bhikkewal village of Punjab. The woman was taken to a hospital for treatment, and the police have launched an investigation into the incident.
In other news, the Supreme Court Bar Association has called an emergency meeting to discuss the recent changes in the law regarding the National Accountability Bureau. The meeting was attended by the association’s president, secretary, and other officials.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has tabled a bill in the National Assembly to amend Article 51 and 106 of the Constitution. The bill proposes a 10-year sentence and a fine of Rs 5 million for anyone found guilty of driving under the influence of alcohol and causing death.
In a separate incident, a police constable was killed during a shootout in the Pakistan Colony area of Islamabad. The police recovered a pistol, a motorbike, and other weapons from the suspect.

The MQM’s Kamran Tessori has also come under fire for his party’s lack of support for the victims of the Glitter Plaza tragedy. The party has been criticized for not providing any aid to the families of the victims.
Lastly, the Meteorological Department has announced that a low-pressure system is expected to bring heavy rainfall to Karachi from this afternoon to evening. The department has also warned of possible flash flooding in low-lying areas.
