The Board of Colleges and Universities Sindh has issued a stern notice to the district administration, directing them to take immediate legal and administrative action against the unlawful occupation of the University of Karachi’s valuable land. The move comes after the department sent a formal letter to the Deputy Commissioner Karachi East, revealing that the series of unauthorized encroachments on the university’s land has continued unabated.
According to the letter, at least two petrol pumps have been established illegally on the university’s land, which not only amount to unlawful occupation of government land but also challenge the institution’s legal and administrative authority. The president of the University Teachers Association has stated that they are committed to defending the university’s land and are willing to work with the administration to resolve the issue.
The Board of Colleges and Universities has directed the Deputy Commissioner of East District to take immediate action to stop the unlawful occupation, ensure the protection of the university’s land, and submit any investigation report made so far to the department to initiate further action.
The move has been welcomed by the academic and administrative circles, with many viewing it as a significant step towards addressing the growing concerns of land encroachment on university property. However, the real test lies in whether the district administration will take concrete action to address the issue or let it slide like previous cases.
