The Senate of Pakistan has passed a bill amending the Penal Code, introducing a new section 297-A, which aims to curb Jadoo Tonah (black magic). The bill stipulates that anyone found guilty of practicing or promoting Jadoo Tonah will face imprisonment ranging from six months to seven years and a fine of up to 1 million rupees. However, the amendment will not apply to individuals who are licensed to practice spiritual healing under the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
In other developments, the Senate has approved several bills, including the Mental Health Amendment Bill, Nursing Council Amendment Bill, Medical and Dental Council Amendment Bill, and Civil Servants Amendment Bill. The bill related to honor killings has been referred to the relevant committee. Senator Sarmad Ali’s proposed Punjab Motor Vehicle Amendment Bill has also been passed.
The Senate has also approved the Civil Servants Amendment Bill, which mandates that 10% of the provincial share be allocated to women and 5% to minorities. Furthermore, the Senate has approved the Federal Curriculum, Textbook Bill, and the Punjab Motor Vehicle Amendment Bill.
According to a media report, Afghanistan’s development budget has been reduced from 131 billion Afghanis to 24 billion Afghanis. New SOPs will be developed, and fire safety systems will be strengthened, announced MPA Dr. Maira Nisar.
In a separate incident, a new case of a child succumbing to throat disease has been reported in Karachi. The child was undergoing treatment, said MPA Dr. Muhammad Ishaq Sohder.
