A devastating fire broke out at the ICT Terminal of the Karachi Port, engulfing 20 containers and forcing authorities to suspend the handling of two ships. According to a spokesperson from the rescue services, the fire started in a warehouse in the Kemari West Wharf, where a container filled with clothes caught fire, spreading to multiple containers containing electronic items, chemicals, clothing, and lithium batteries.
The Minister of Maritime Affairs, Jamaid Niazi, has taken notice of the incident and instructed the authorities to use all resources to bring the fire under control. The Chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) stated that the fire was brought under control with the effective cooperation of all agencies involved, and that approximately 20 containers were damaged. The Sindh government has assured the public that all resources are being utilized to minimize the inconvenience caused, with the Ministry working to alleviate the situation.
The Chief Minister of Sindh, Murad Ali Shah, has directed the AIG to submit a daily report on the progress of the case. The Foreign Minister, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, expressed his desire for peace and stability in the region. The Governor of Balochistan, Muhammad Khan Achakzai, stated that the PDM’s previous stance was that they would not remove anyone, and that Fazlur Rehman would also be included.
