Punjab’s Home Department has issued a directive to crack down on kite flying, stating that the activity is strictly prohibited in the province. As per the directive, kite flying and kite racing have been banned, with a penalty of up to five years in prison and a fine of up to PKR 20 million. The department also warned that selling, distributing, or transporting kites and strings could result in a penalty of up to seven years in prison and a fine of up to PKR 50 million.
In Lahore, the Home Department has allowed kite flying only on February 6, 7, and 8, and warned that flying kites before the designated time is illegal. The department emphasized that kite flying poses a risk to human life and that both motorcyclists and cyclists must wear helmets.
The use of non-approved strings for kite flying has also been prohibited, with the department stating that only approved strings can be used for the activity. The government has also emphasized the importance of road safety, with motorcyclists and cyclists required to wear helmets at all times.
In other news, the United Nations has called for a solution to the Palestine issue under international law, with Pakistan’s permanent representative to the UN, Asim Ahmed, stating that the issue has not been resolved despite efforts.
