A recent Bollywood film, “Dhoniendro”, directed by Kumar Sanu, has been making headlines not only for its contentious storyline but also for its filming locations. The film, starring Ranveer Singh and Akshay Kumar, has sparked interest among viewers, particularly in Karachi and Liaquatabad, where some scenes were filmed. However, it has been revealed that these locations were not actual Karachi and Liaquatabad but rather Mumbai’s Madh Island.
The filming of the movie began in Bangkok, Thailand in July 2024, where the team created scenes of Pakistani cities and towns. Many crucial action scenes were filmed in Bangkok, showcasing modern set designs and production details to create a realistic Pakistani environment.
Some interior scenes were filmed at Filmistan Studios in February 2025, which served as the main production hub for the film. Additionally, action and transition scenes were filmed at Dombivli’s Manpada Bridge, where an industrial environment was used without significant modifications, making the scenes appear more realistic.
The film aims to highlight the positive aspects of Karachi’s sports culture, traditions, and society. However, the film’s producers have confirmed that the scenes depicting Karachi and Liaquatabad were actually filmed in Mumbai’s Madh Island, using narrow alleys, old buildings, and specific camera angles to create a realistic and authentic representation.
The film’s emotional scenes were filmed in Amritsar, where the team captured the beauty of the Golden Temple. The picturesque village of Kheera in Ludhiana was also used to depict a Pakistani rural setting, where scenes of the film’s emotional and nostalgic moments were captured.
The most challenging phase of filming took place in August 2025 in Ladakh, where the team faced extreme weather conditions and high-altitude locations. Despite the difficulties, the team successfully completed filming at Patthar Sahib, a serene location.
Noted Pakistani music artists Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Atif Aslam, known for their exceptional live performances, have been associated with the film. Kumar Sanu, the film’s director, sought the opinion of a psychologist to understand the emotional state of his fans. The film’s production budget is estimated to be around 16,000 crore rupees (1.6 billion dollars).
