The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shahbaz Sharif, has expressed his delight at the 16.5% increase in remittances for the month of December. In a statement, the Prime Minister also thanked expats for sending record remittances in December 2025. According to estimates, the total remittances for the financial year 2026 are expected to surpass $41 billion.
Prime Minister Sharif expressed his gratitude to the expats for sending $3.6 billion in remittances in December 2025. He stated that the 16.5% increase in remittances is a testament to the government’s policies and the trust of expats in the government.
The Prime Minister also emphasized that the expats’ remittances are a significant contribution to the country’s development and progress. He added that the expats are a valuable asset for the country, and the nation is proud of them. He assured that the government’s top priority is to take measures for the well-being of expats.
However, the news cycle was dominated by other significant events. A bomb blast occurred in a gas refill shop in Chak Shafi, a village in Pakpattan district, injuring several people. In Karachi, a mass wedding ceremony was held at the Railway Ground, organized by the Hindu Council.
Senior leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Asad Qaiser, defended the party’s right to hold meetings, citing Article 19 of the Constitution. He stated that the government’s restrictions on gatherings are unconstitutional.
The Minister of Local Government, Sindh, Syed Naeem Hussain Shah, said that the government will seek permission from the federal government to hold a meeting at the Mazar-e-Quaid. The city is facing serious food security issues, with a survey estimating that there are only 2.07 million cows in Karachi, far short of the 3.5 million estimated earlier.
