Pakistan’s National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has written to Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, requesting detailed information about the city’s development projects over the past five years. The inquiry is aimed at investigating allegations of corruption in the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s (KMC) development projects.
The NAB has directed the mayor to provide details of all completed and incomplete projects between 2020 and 2025 by January 15. Preliminary investigations have revealed that the majority of complaints are against the Revenue, Municipal, Police, and Education departments.
In a separate development, the Sindh government has decided to take immediate action against the 22 departments that have faced corruption allegations, with over 13,000 complaints filed against them. The most common complaints have been against the Revenue, Municipal, Police, and Education departments.
Anti-Corruption Minister Sardar Muhammad Bashir has directed officials to take immediate and transparent action against those accused of corruption. According to the Police, more than 30 personnel have been taken into custody, and one police officer was injured while dealing with protesters.
A lady constable, who was part of the operation, has been suspended, and a case has been registered against her. She had claimed that she had laid the foundation for several development projects in the Old City area.
