The federal government has decided to retain the basic electricity tariff across the country, as per the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA). NEPRA has recommended maintaining the maximum tariff for domestic consumers at 47.69 rupees per unit. According to NEPRA, the tariff for protected consumers with one to 100 units will be maintained at 10.54 rupees, while for those with 101 to 200 units, the tariff will be 13.01 rupees.
NEPRA has also recommended maintaining the tariff for non-protected domestic consumers with one to 100 units at 22.44 rupees, and for those with 101 to 200 units, the tariff will be 28.91 rupees per unit. For protected consumers with 201 to 300 units, the tariff will be 33.10 rupees per unit, while for those with 301 to 400 units, the tariff will be 37.99 rupees per unit. For protected consumers with 401 to 500 units, the tariff will be 40.22 rupees per unit, while for those with 501 to 600 units, the tariff will be 41.62 rupees per unit.
For protected consumers with 601 to 700 units, the tariff will be 42.76 rupees per unit, and for those with over 700 units, the tariff will be 47.69 rupees per unit. The taxes will be added to the silver rate, increasing the price of tariff per unit. According to NEPRA, the tariff for residential life line consumers with up to 50 units will be 3.95 rupees per month, while for those with 51 to 100 units, the tariff will be 7.74 rupees per month.
NEPRA has submitted its decision to the federal government, which had requested a uniform tariff. According to Bloomberg, the talks to include Turkey in the Pakistan-Saudi defense alliance are at an advanced stage, and a deal between the three countries is likely to be finalized soon.
In other news, the Chief Information Officer of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, Shafiq Jan, has stated that the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) is in disarray, and the party’s leaders are losing control. He also stated that the party is facing a crisis of confidence.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has announced that it will launch its first flight from Lahore to London on March 30, 2024. The flight will operate from Terminal 4 of Heathrow Airport.
The Bureau of Immigration has released data showing that over 100,000 Pakistanis left the country in search of employment in 2025.
