Pakistan Railways is set to form partnerships with Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, following successful collaborations with Balochistan and Punjab. According to Minister for Railways, Muhammad Hamza Shahbaz Abbasi, the three provinces have expressed their willingness to join hands with the state-owned railway company.
In an exclusive interview with Geo News’ program, Capital Talk, Abbasi revealed that Pakistan Railways is on track to generate a profit of Rs. 100 billion this year. The minister attributed this achievement to the public-private partnership (PPP) model introduced by the Prime Minister, which has allowed the company to divest its schools, hospitals, and freight trains.
Abbasi expressed optimism about the prospects of partnering with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, stating that the provincial government has agreed to invest in the railway sector. He emphasized that Pakistan Railways is a strategic asset and that the partnership will bring economic benefits to the country.
The development comes as Pakistan is set to welcome a significant increase in international flights, with the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) announcing its first flight to London from Lahore, scheduled for March 30. The flight will depart from Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport and land at London’s Heathrow Airport’s Terminal 4.
Meanwhile, the Bureau of Immigration has released data showing that over 1 million Pakistanis have left the country in search of employment abroad in 2025.
In other news, a mobile phone thief was apprehended by the police within 12 hours of the crime, thanks to the use of advanced technology. The police have also issued a notice to a housing society for cutting down trees without permission, while the provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has expressed its willingness to form a partnership with Pakistan Railways.
The Opposition Alliance, led by Maulana Mahmood Khan Achakzai, has criticized the government for its lack of discipline and leadership, stating that every 100 members of the party have a leader.
In a separate incident, a woman was found dead in a park in Islamabad, and an investigation has been launched to determine the cause of her death. The Iranian Foreign Ministry has also issued a statement condemning the US government’s comments on the situation, saying that they are an attempt to create chaos and violence.
