The Senate Standing Committee on Economic Affairs has revealed widespread irregularities in a 27 billion solar energy project in Sindh. Committee Chairman, Senator Saifullah Abro, stated that the selection of NGOs was made without tenders, favoring some individuals. He added that a panel worth 21,000 rupees was purchased for 60,000 rupees, and a complete plan was devised to favor certain individuals. During the meeting, the Planning Division of Sindh briefed the committee and revealed that evidence of billions of rupees in corruption has been found in the solar project. The briefing stated that two inquiries have been conducted under the project, which aimed to provide solar panels to poor people. The authorities claimed that the project was implemented under NGOs, but widespread irregularities were found at every level. The committee has summoned the Secretary again for the upcoming Senate session, along with all the records.
