Under the new legislation, an individual will be allowed to hold a maximum of four firearms licenses, while farmers will be permitted to hold up to 10. Membership in a gun club will be mandatory for those holding firearms licenses. The law also grants police additional powers to impose restrictions on protests for up to three months in the event of a terrorist attack.
The police have charged a 24-year-old man, Naveed Akram, with 59 counts, including terrorism, in connection with the Bondi Beach shooting. Akram was injured during the police response to the attack. The shooting occurred during a Jewish holiday event on Sydney’s coast, resulting in the deaths of 15 people and injuries to over 30.
