The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) opposition has rejected the Prime Minister’s offer for peace talks, accusing the government of using negotiations as a ploy to deceive the public. PTI spokesperson Sheikh Waqas Akram said in a media interview that the government is attempting to use talks as a means to further its own political agenda.
Former party leaders have demanded that the Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, release senior party leadership from Kot Lakhpat Jail before initiating peace talks. They argue that the government’s demand for the PTI to seek forgiveness is a sign of its political weakness and intellectual bankruptcy.
Sheikh Waqas Akram stated that the government’s approach is a clear indication of its political instability and intellectual bankruptcy. He added that the PTI will not participate in peace talks with the government.
In a previous interview with Geo News, Sheikh Waqas Akram responded to the Prime Minister’s offer for peace talks. Defence Minister Khawaja Asif countered by saying that negotiations are based on give-and-take, implying that the Prime Minister does not have the authority to initiate talks. Akram retorted by saying that the PTI will not participate in peace talks with the government.
Reports suggest that PTI leaders Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Maulana Naseer Abbas will respond to the Prime Minister’s offer for peace talks today. Sindh Governor said that they are ready to win the war of economy, just like they won the war against India. Sindh Chief Minister emphasized the need for unity among all stakeholders to improve the country’s prospects. Provincial Assembly can enact legislation for the betterment of the province, Sindh Chief Minister said.
