Sindh, Pakistan, and Kuwait have signed major agreements worth billions of dollars to develop a water supply project, a new water treatment plant in Karachi, and a cutting-edge technology park, marking a significant step forward in the cooperation between the two countries.
In a ceremony marking the signing of the agreements, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah hailed the deals as a major breakthrough in the fields of water, energy, innovation, and environmental protection. He stated that the water supply project will provide clean drinking water to the first block of Tharparkar, while the technology park at the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) will promote research, technology, and employment opportunities.
The Chief Minister also said that the technology park will have all modern facilities, and the West Water Treatment Plan will provide clean water to industries in Karachi, meeting international standards. He announced that the NUST technology park will be inaugurated soon to start practical work, and the West Water Treatment Plan’s Phase 4 will be initiated, for which a memorandum of understanding will be signed.
The agreements are being implemented with the cooperation of Inertec, Kuwait’s state-owned company, and are among the largest projects of their kind, the Chief Minister said. He also stated that Sindh’s public-private partnership has been ranked sixth globally, and the federal government has expressed confidence in it.
The Chief Minister also announced that the loans for major projects such as the Hyderabad-Mirpurkhas highway and the Karachi-Thatta two-lane highway have been fully repaid. He said that the 40-kilometer-long Bhutto Expressway will be completed by March 2026, which will significantly reduce traffic congestion in Karachi.
Pakistan has taken a major step towards sustainable long-term development, with the country starting its new fiscal year on a stronger economic foundation.
