Karachi’s Chief Election Commissioner, Nawaaz Tallypur, has resigned from his position as Chief Election Commissioner. In a letter to the Karachi Bar Association, he stated that he took charge on December 21, amidst extraordinary circumstances, and discussed the election issues in a meeting. He emphasized that more than 200 impartial polling staff would be required to conduct free and fair elections.
Nawaaz Tallypur mentioned that the decision to hold the election on January 17 was made after consulting with the candidates, but some candidates disputed the matter under the influence of political interests. He stated that he faced personal attacks on social media, labeling collective decisions as personal opinions, thus violating the principles and dignity of the Bar.
Nawaaz Tallypur said that he took over the office of Chief Election Commissioner when the Bar’s honor and autonomy were at their peak. He stated that if decisions made with good intentions could not be implemented, then there was no justification for holding the office. Rescue workers reported that the incident occurred due to high speed, and the injured were shifted to the hospital.
