The five-day Karachi World Book Fair, held under the aegis of Pakistan Publishers and Booksellers Association, came to a successful conclusion, quenching the thirst of those who cherish knowledge and awareness. The Karachi World Book Fair broke all previous records, with an estimated 5 lakh people attending the event, including over 300 schools, colleges, universities, and madrasas.
The inauguration of the Karachi World Book Fair was marked by the presence of Provincial Minister for Education, Syed Sardar Ali Shah, while notable personalities such as Federal Minister for Education and Training, Khalid Mehmood, Sindh Assembly Opposition Leader, Ali Khursheed, and renowned author, Dr. Fatima Hasan, were among the many who attended the fair over the five days.
The fair featured 329 stalls, including local and 17 foreign publishers and booksellers, with discounts ranging from 30 to 70 percent offered by the publishers and booksellers on the last day. According to the fair’s administration, the next edition of the Karachi World Book Fair will be held from December 17, 2026.
The Vice Chancellor of Nazeer Hussain University, Prof. Dr. Musarrat Sheikh, also visited the fair on the last day, saying that it is essential to organize such activities to promote Islamic values and traditions among the youth. “This book fair is not just an event, but it has become a part of Pakistan’s identity,” he said. “We must ensure that it continues to shine with the same fervor, even in this era of the internet and mobile phones. The large turnout at the book fair is a good omen for the future.”
The Chairman of the Pakistan Publishers and Booksellers Association, Kamran Norani, and the Convener of the Karachi Book Fair, Waqar Matin, welcomed the remarkable turnout and enthusiastic participation of the public, saying that the fair is a manifestation of the city’s love for reading and intellectual activities.
The administration of the Karachi Book Fair expressed satisfaction with the smooth organization of the event, thanking the government of Sindh, the Karachi administration, security agencies, publishers, and the public for their cooperation. They also announced that the next edition of the fair will be expanded to provide further opportunities for intellectual and literary activities.
On a separate note, the police reported that five police officers were killed in a firing incident, while three others were injured, including a husband. The perpetrators escaped after the shooting.
