Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training, Khalid Mehmood Siddiqui, has stated that books are our legacy. Karachi is a small Pakistan that paves the way for the larger Pakistan. Karachi regains its faith and conviction with the World Book Fair. He made this statement while visiting the five-day Karachi World Book Fair at the Expo Centre on Saturday.
Federal Minister Khalid Mehmood Siddiqui, along with opposition leader Ali Khursheed, Member of the National Assembly Adil Aslam Akbar, and other dignitaries, visited the Karachi Book Fair. In an interview with the media, he stated that for the past 20 years, the world has been witnessing the splendor of book fairs. Karachi is a small Pakistan, and Karachi runs, and Pakistan flourishes. Pakistan is our nation, and we need to save it.
The Federal Minister stated that for the past 17 years, the national consensus has been in favor of Karachi, but now the treatment meted out to Karachi has been defeated. Karachi’s book fair is a place where faith and conviction are revived.
Jamiat-e-Islami Karachi’s Amir, Mun’im Zafar, stated that the book fair has proven that Karachi is a city of people who love knowledge and books. There is no substitute for friendship with books. Although technology plays a crucial role, one cannot neglect the importance of books. Books guide individuals throughout their lives.
Opposition leader Ali Khursheed stated that those who think that the importance of books has diminished in the present era should visit the Karachi World Book Fair to witness the awareness and thirst for knowledge. He stated that the book fair has proven Karachi’s love for books. Today, Karachi still loves books.
The three-day third day of the Karachi World Book Fair, held under the aegis of the Pakistan Publishers and Booksellers Association, at the Expo Center, witnessed a large number of people who love books. According to a rough estimate, over 3 million people, including school and college students, visited the book fair. The Expo Center was so crowded that visitors had to park their cars outside.
Visitors were predominantly interested in buying children’s stories, novels, and historical books from the stalls. However, science fiction, general knowledge, and other books were also purchased.
Notable personalities, including Federal Minister for Education and Training Khalid Mehmood Siddiqui, opposition leader Ali Khursheed, Member of the National Assembly Ahmad Salim Siddiqui, Jamiat-e-Islami Karachi’s Amir Mun’im Zafar, Managing Director National Book Foundation Dr. Kamran Jehangir, Regional Director Faiyaz, writer Fauzia Hasan, and other literary, social, educational, and religious figures, visited the book fair.
A total of 329 stalls were set up by local and foreign publishers and book sellers, including those from Malaysia, Turkey, Egypt, and the UK, among 17 countries. The book fair will continue until December 22.
