The Trump administration has reportedly ordered the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to submit 100 to 200 citizenship revocation cases to the Department of Justice every month. According to a recent report by an American newspaper, this move is part of a broader effort to accelerate the process of stripping citizenship from foreign-born Americans.
The Department of Justice has revealed that since 2017, a total of 120 citizenship revocation cases have been received, with the number of people obtaining US citizenship reaching 26 million. Last year alone, 8 million foreigners acquired American citizenship, with the majority hailing from Mexico, India, the Philippines, the Dominican Republic, and Vietnam.
In 2018, the Department of Justice received 90 citizenship revocation cases, while in 2024, 13 cases were registered, with 8 of them resulting in the revocation of citizenship. The newspaper report suggests that this trend of increasing citizenship revocations has been observed even under former President Donald Trump’s first term.
