MUMBAI, India—Actress and filmmaker Divya Khosla has leveled a serious accusation against the Indian film industry, reigniting the contentious debate over the authenticity of Bollywood’s box office figures. Khosla claimed that nearly 90 percent of Bollywood box office numbers are not genuine but are heavily manipulated through what she termed “corporate bookings.”
The startling revelation came during a recent social media interaction session with her fans, where she answered questions about her career and the inner workings of the film industry. When pressed on her previous claims about box office data, Khosla stated that her intent was never to challenge anyone’s authority, but she felt “compelled to speak about the unethical practices” in the industry, which she had witnessed firsthand.
Khosla pointed to the corrupt influence of money and power, adding, “Corporate bookings are done here, awards are bought, and the reason is power and money.” Highlighting the human impact of these practices, she questioned, “What about those who have none of these things?”
She asserted that this kind of organized manipulation severely undermines the genuine talent and hard work present in the film industry, creating an unfair environment where success is determined by financial muscle rather than merit.
