ABU DHABI—The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced a landmark decision to unify the timing for Friday prayers and sermons across all mosques nationwide. The move is aimed at enhancing administrative efficiency and bringing greater religious regularity throughout the seven emirates.
According to the UAE General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowment, this new standardized schedule will come into effect on January 2, 2026. Officials confirmed that the Friday sermon and prayer will commence simultaneously across the entire country at 12:45 PM.
This decision marks a significant shift from previous regional variations. Historically, major emirates like Dubai and Abu Dhabi typically held the Friday prayer around 1:30 PM, while in Sharjah and the northern emirates, it was often closer to 12:30 PM. The adoption of a single, unified time reflects a cohesive national policy on Islamic affairs, promising convenience for worshippers and demonstrating national uniformity.
