A harrowing incident rooted in financial despair has struck a family in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India, resulting in the tragic loss of three generations. In the city’s Tavarekere area, a mother and grandmother allegedly administered poison to a 14-year-old boy before taking their own lives.
The deceased have been identified as 14-year-old Monish, a seventh-grade student, his 38-year-old mother Sudha, and his 68-year-old maternal grandmother, Madamma. Police suspect that the two women first poisoned the boy and then consumed the same toxic substance.
According to police, initial investigations strongly suggest that the family was under extreme financial pressure and debt, which compelled them to take this devastating action. The report indicates that Sudha and Madamma previously ran a small business selling biryani, but after incurring losses, they were forced to switch to selling chips and milk, and eventually resorted to working as domestic help as their economic circumstances continued to deteriorate.
The family, originally from Tamil Nadu, had recently returned from a temple visit. Sudha had been separated from her husband for years and lived with her mother and son. Neighbors alerted the police after finding the three individuals unconscious at home. Authorities have commenced an investigation to uncover the full details behind this tragic event, which highlights the devastating human cost of financial crises and debt in the region.
