In a decisive move to ensure the safety of students and citizens across the province, Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz has ordered strict new security protocols for educational institutions. Understanding the anxiety parents feel regarding their children’s safety, the Chief Minister has directed the police to collaborate with the School Education Department to conduct regular mock security drills. These exercises aim to prepare staff and students for any potential emergency.
Beyond drills, the government has made it mandatory for all schools and colleges to have active security guards, strict entry point checking, and functional CCTV systems. The tightening of security also extends to public transport; a decision has been made to register the drivers and staff of buses entering Punjab from other provinces to monitor movement more effectively. The Chief Minister has also sought closer cooperation with the Motorway Police to secure travel routes.
The safety of public spaces remains a priority as well. Directives have been issued to enhance digital monitoring in parks and to review the functionality of Safe City cameras across the province, with specific orders to ensure full coverage in cities like Rawalpindi.
Expressing her personal commitment to the cause, CM Maryam Nawaz stated that she “will not rest” until Punjab becomes the safest province in the country. She emphasized that this goal cannot be achieved by the government alone and urged citizens to play their part by keeping a watchful eye on their surroundings and reporting any suspicious individuals or activities immediately.
