Karachi, Pakistan β Expressing deep concern over Pakistanβs escalating political crisis, former Senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar has emphasized the urgent need for a ‘National Dialogue’ to bridge the widening political polarization. He asserted that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has endured the maximum possible political pressure.
Speaking on Geo News programme ‘Naya Pakistan,’ Khokhar stated, “The PTI has borne all the hardship it was meant to bear.” He warned that the political division has grown to an extent where “no path remains except for a National Dialogue,” reiterating the fundamental principle that political deadlocks are always resolved through conversation.
The former senator called upon ruling and opposition parties to convene and find a common ground for the nation’s progress and to de-escalate polarization. He acknowledged Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah as a conscious politician and stressed that all stakeholders must now be willing to sit together.
Addressing the continuous crackdown on PTI, Khokhar noted that arrests of party leaders have become a “routine matter,” questioning what more could be done to the party. He emphasized that pushing dialogue forward is now imperative for the country’s best interests.
To initiate the process, he suggested that the resumption of meetings between other politicians and the founder of PTI could kickstart the dialogue. Khokhar underscored the democratic principle that the power to politically sideline (or ‘minus’) any individual rests solely with the public.
Drawing on historical precedent, he cited the example of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif: when leaders are prematurely dismissed, the public often rallies behind them, leading to movements like the “Respect the Vote” slogan. This reflection highlights the political implications of current behaviors and strongly advocates for a path of reconciliation.
