Following the death of legendary Indian actor Dharmendra at the age of 89 last month, speculations surrounding the distribution of his estate have been settled with the surfacing of his eight-year-old will. The document reveals an unconventional and pragmatic decision regarding his ancestral property.
Indian media reports claim that Dharmendra chose to bypass his own children when it came to his ancestral estate located in Dangon village, Ludhiana district. Instead of leaving the property to his sons and daughters, he entrusted the heritage to his brother’s sons (nephews), who remained connected to his rural roots.
The Rationale Behind the Decision
The decision was guided by a desire for preservation and a practical understanding of his family’s dynamics. Dharmendra reportedly felt that his children, whose lives are centered around their busy careers in the city (Mumbai), would be unable to provide the continuous care and management required by the extensive 2.5-acre property. Conversely, his nephews still reside in the area and have served as the protectors and guardians of the family legacy for many years.
The property, which includes the actor’s childhood home and is estimated to be worth approximately 50 million Indian rupees ($5 crore), was reportedly handed over to his nephews during Dharmendra’s lifetime, ensuring its stewardship by those dedicated to maintaining the family’s ancestral connection.
