A major security alert unfolded in Derby, UK, where police arrested two individuals on suspicion of possessing explosive materials following a controlled detonation and an extensive search operation in the area.
As a crucial safety measure against any potential threat, police ordered the emergency evacuation of approximately 200 homes, causing considerable alarm among local residents. British media reported that the two suspects, described as Polish nationals in their forties and fifties, were apprehended on Walbrook Street.
Superintendent Rebecca Webster confirmed that the police and intelligence agencies are actively investigating the incident to determine the nature of the explosive material. While the area was deemed safe after the searches, residents were advised to stay away from their homes for a further 24 hours as a precaution.
