As the world observes Diabetes Awareness Day, health experts in Pakistan are sounding an urgent alarm regarding the rapidly and alarmingly increasing rate of diabetes in the country, particularly within the youth population. This growing trend is being fundamentally attributed to a crisis of lifestyle management.
According to medical specialists, this alarming increase is primarily a consequence of negligence and unsustainable lifestyle choices. The key reasons cited include a critical lack of daily exercise, the failure to change a sedentary and unbalanced routine, chronic mental stress and tension, and the consistent consumption of an imbalanced diet.
Experts highlighted the severe health risks associated with the disease, noting that diabetes not only critically affects the kidneys but also negatively impacts eyesight, cardiac function, and blood pressure, thereby increasing the risk of several other major and deadly illnesses.
Specialists emphasized that the only effective way to tackle this epidemic is through fundamental lifestyle reform. Their advice is clear: to prevent diabetes, individuals must make daily exercise or at least a 30-minute walk mandatory, maintain an active routine throughout the day, actively seek to minimize tension and stress, and ensure the consistent consumption of a balanced diet.
