Muhammad Irfan Khan Niazi, the captain of the Pakistan Shaheens (A team), offered valuable insight into his leadership philosophy following their comprehensive victory over India in the Emerging Asia Cup tournament. He asserted that every player must learn to handle intense situations, noting: “The player who performs under pressure becomes a big star and plays the best innings.”
Speaking on Geo News’ morning show ‘Geo Pakistan,’ Irfan Khan revealed the team’s winning strategy: they were instructed to play “without pressure” and specifically told not to worry about the Indian side. This confident approach led the team to achieve the 137-run target in just 14 overs, securing an 8-wicket win.
Regarding the recent controversy over players allegedly refusing to shake hands after the match, the captain downplayed its significance. However, he did acknowledge a shift in the dynamics: while relations with the Indian team were previously very good, “the relationship is not the same anymore.”
Meanwhile, all-rounder Maaz Sadaqat, who was rightfully named Man of the Match for his outstanding all-round performance (a brilliant 79* runs and two wickets), conveyed his joy, stating that winning against India “is a magnificent feeling.” He also confirmed that his favorite player is Babar Azam.
This crucial victory secured Pakistan Shaheens’ place in the semi-finals of the Emerging Asia Cup T20, held in Doha, Qatar.
